Choral Classics, February 12, 2017 at 3:00 pm – Join the Louisville Chamber Choir at Saint James Catholic Church for a performance of great works of choral music highlighted by Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G minor. The mass, written in 1921, is set for unaccompanied double choir and soloists. It blends sixteenth century compositional techniques with lush twentieth century harmonies. Also on the concert is Brahms' Fest und Gedenksprüche, Op. 109 for double choir, William Hawley's Four Reveries, and Thomas Tallis' choral tour de force, Spem in Alium.

Autumn Melodies

Autumn Melodies, November 6, 2016 at 3:00 pm – The 2016-17 season begins with music for All-Saint’s Day and St. Cecilia’s Day – the patron saint of music. Hymn to St. Cecilia by Benjamin Britten was written in 1942 in honor of St. Cecilia and was based upon a poem by W.H. Auden. The work is in three sections, plus three iterations of the refrain as an invocation to the muse: "Blessed Cecilia/Appear in visions to all musicians/Appear and inspire". Highlights of the concert include a new Magnificat setting by Latvian composer Erik Esenvalds, Stephen Paulus' beautiful arrangement of Silent Night, as well as arrangements of other holiday favorites by John Rutter, David Willcocks, and André Thomas.  

Tickets $20 - Adults/$15 - Seniors/$10 - Students (Due to high demand, tickets may only be purchased online or by phone for the Saturday 12/20/14 performance after 4:00 p.m. on 12/19/14. Tickets for the 12/19/14 performance may still be purchased at the door)
