Artistic Director Kent Hatteberg formed the Louisville Chamber Choir in the Fall of 2013. Comprised of musicians from the Louisville Metropolitan Area and beyond, the choir aspires to the highest level of ensemble performance. Since its inception, the Louisville Chamber Choir has dedicated itself to fulfilling its mission to present exceptional musical experiences that nurture community appreciation of choral singing through quality performances, recordings, and collaborations.

The choir’s performances encompass a wide range of composers, from Gabrieli and Byrd to Ešenvalds and Whitacre, in an effort to engage audiences through technical expertise and emotional expression. Each singer brings his/her musicality and merges it with that of the other singers to create a synergy between choir, conductor, and audience.

The Louisville Chamber Choir has presented many of the great a cappella works, including Poulenc: Mass in G, Martin: Mass for Double Choir, Howells: Requiem, Pizzetti: Messa di Requiem, Palestrina: Missa Papae Marcelli, Victoria:Missa pro Defunctis, Vaughan Williams: Mass in G Minor; collections of works, including Brahms: Fest- und Gedenk- sprüche, Mendelssohn: Drei Psalmen, Opus 78, Poulenc: Lenten motets and Christmas motets, Duruflé: Quatre Motets, Pärt: Sieben Magnificat-Antiphonen, Veljo Tormis: Inkerin Illat; as well as works with instruments, such as Bach BWV 4 and BWV 182, Schütz: Musikalische Exequien, Duruflé: Requiem, and Bernstein: Missa brevis. In 2018 the choir partnered with the Louisville classical music station WUOL to record Thomas Tallis’s Spem in alium in 360 video and audio, creating a virtual reality experience that combined classical choral music with cutting edge technology (watch here).

In February 2022, The Louisville Chamber Choir performed at the Southern Division conference of the American Choral Director’s Association in Raleigh, NC. LCC collaborates regularly with the Louisville Orchestra, including annual performances of Handel’s Messiah. Recent performances with the orchestra include Mozart’s Requiem and works of Eric Whitacre (March 2024 with Eric Whitacre, conductor), Nathaniel Dett’s The Ordering of Moses (April 2022), Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, Bernstein’s Mass and Chichester Psalms, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, and Orff ’s Carmina Burana. In April 2023, select current and former members of LCC comprised the choir for Teddy Abrams’ MAMMOTH, a collaboration held inside Mammoth Cave alongside Yo-Yo Ma and the Louisville Orchestra.

In 2017 the Louisville Chamber Choir released the album Songs of Christmas Night, a mixture of familiar seasonal songs and new carols, which was met with wide-spread acclaim. The choir anticipates the release of a new album of recordings, Sacred Revelations. This recording will feature works by Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Palestrina, Tallis, Duruflé, Michael Waldenby, Wolfram Buchenberg, Nikolai Golovanov, and Kentucky composer and Louisville Chamber Choir member Blake Wilson.
